Day 8: January Mindful Writing Challenge

Steady flow of turbulent current. Recent heavy rains have swollen the river. The water level laps the top of the bank where I stand and watch. The river is the colour of its bed, silt brown. Dirt churned into a milky stream by force and weight. For thousands of years this watercourse has driven a path to sea through here. Trees came before man’s machinations. Fields too. Yet they succumb to the whim of the destructive beast. But not rivers. Alter their course at your peril. Live in their wake and prepare for destruction yourself. Water will find its way home. Rivers will always find their way back to sea.
